WIEB held a webinar to share the findings of its Minerals Project under its Reserve Expenditure Program on December 13, 2023.
The energy transition will require substantial critical minerals and materials (e.g., lithium, cobalt, silicon, graphite, nickel, copper, and rare earth elements) to support new energy resources. The U.S. is currently dependent on importing these minerals from foreign nations. This project explores the potential for Western states and provinces to supply these critical minerals and materials domestically to support this transition. This project was carried out by a team of researchers from the Colorado School of Mines.
