Net Metering:

All electric utilities (IOUs, Munis, Coops) must offer net metering service. Customers accepted on a first come, first served basis until the cumulative net metered capacity for a utilities equaled 4% of the utility’s peak demand during 1996. At least have of a utility’s net generation capacity must be from renewable energy. Customers with net excess generation (NEG) will be credited on the next monthly bill at the utility’s retail rate. Credits can be rolled over to the next month but expire each year on April 30. Generator- customers retain ownership of RECs.
