WIEB Summer Stanford University Internship Program
Since 2018, the Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB) has hosted students as part of the Shultz Energy Fellowships in partnership with Stanford University. This fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity for highly motivated students to contribute to important energy policy research and exploration in the Western States and Provinces. Through the fellowship, WIEB benefits from the valuable insights and expertise of these students, who delve into significant energy issues and help shape critical policies. At the culmination of the fellowship, the students showcase their findings and recommendations through a public webinar, allowing policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to benefit from their research and foster meaningful connections.
2025 WIEB-Stanford Shultz Energy Fellows:
Maya Arengo
Maya finished her B.A. in Economics from Stanford in 2025 and next year will be returning to Stanford to finish an M.S. in Sustainability Science and Practice. Maya’s research interests include resource planning, energy markets, and grid reliability. She previously interned at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where she researched corporate energy procurement strategies.
Henry Daniels-Koch
Henry is a Master’s student in Stanford’s Civil & Environmental Engineering program, specializing in Atmosphere/Energy. This spring, Henry worked at E3, using its loss-of-load-probability model “RECAP” to model the reliability of electric power systems. Previously, he supported Ava Community Energy in preparing filings for the CPUC’s Slice-of-Day RA framework by developing a probabilistic load forecasting model. He also worked as a data engineer at Generate Capital, where he analyzed the operational and financial performance of distributed energy assets, including community solar, fuel cells, and batteries.
