The Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB) is pleased to announce the release of a new paper, Electrification in the Western Interconnection: Planning for Load Growth, Flexibility, and Reliability, examining how transportation and building electrification are reshaping electricity demand across the West.
The paper reviews Integrated Resource Plans, state policies, and national research to assess:
- Emerging winter and evening peak risks,
- Variations in electrification modeling across utilities,
- Flexibility and resource adequacy implications, and
- Opportunities for improved regional coordination.
To accompany the release, WIEB hosted a public webinar on March 4, 2026, featuring experts from Energy Systems Integration Group, WECC, and the California Energy Commission.
