This summer, the Western Interstate Energy Board (WIEB) hosted two Shultz Energy fellows from Stanford University to investigate existing resource adequacy framework and reliability challenges in the Western States. The fellows conducted interviews with stakeholders across the region, from utility representatives to public utility commissioners, to further explore their perspectives on the evolving nature of resource adequacy in the Western Interconnection. Their findings are intended to enhance the understanding of how the existing resource adequacy frameworks function and to highlight specific challenges related to regional coordination, resource planning, and implementation—particularly in the context of expanding regional markets.
The Stanford University 2025 Shultz Energy fellows are:
- Henry Daniels-Koch, Stanford University MS Candidate, Civil & Environmental Engineering
- Maya Arengo, Stanford University MS Candidate, Sustainability Science & Practice
Please join the fellows on Thursday, August 28 at 12:00 p.m. PDT / 1:00 p.m. MDT until 1:15 p.m. PDT / 2:15 p.m. MDT as they conduct a webinar to share their research findings.
