The WIEB HLRWC held its fall meeting on Wednesday, October 23 in Las Vegas, NV, at the South Point Hotel and Casino. The meeting was held jointly with the Western Governors’ Association Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Transportation Technical Advisory Group.
Agenda topics included:
- A walk-through example of a railroad’s hazardous materials rail routing process and software, presented by BNSF Railways and Ravi Palakodeti from FACTOR, Inc.
- A presentation from Daniel Ogg from the Nuclear Waste Technical review Board on their recent report on technical issues to be addressed for spent nuclear fuel transportation.
- A panel on different testing methods for spent nuclear fuel transportation casks, featuring David Pstrak and Jason Piotter of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Dr. Doug Ammerman of Sandia National Laboratories.
- An exploration of different possibilities for providing highly radioactive materials transportation security coordination and emergency response, with presentations by Kathleen Capstick, Master of Art in Homeland Security candidate from Northeastern University, and MAJ Dillon Sauer and SFC Craig Kenison of the 92nd Civil Support Team from Nevada.
