Energy Efficiency Resource Standard:

The Idaho Governor’s Office of Energy and Mineral Resources provides low-interest loans for building improvements that conserve energy and increase energy efficiency projects. Such projects include upgrades to insulation, lighting, windows, HVAC systems, and appliances.

Idaho also offers a Residential Alternative Energy Tax Deduction (Idaho State Tax Commission). Passive solar, solar water heat, solar space heat, and solar photovoltaics are eligible renewable technologies, as well as others. The incentive is 40% in the first year and 20% for the following three with a maximum incentive of $5,000 per year; $20,000 total maximum deduction. Additionally, Idaho has a Low-Interest Energy Loan Program that provides loans to residential, commercial, multi-family, agricultural, and industrial applicants for solar water heat, solar space heat, and solar photovoltaics (as well as for other renewable energy or efficiency projects). These loans offer flexible payment plans with a 10-year term.

Building Codes:

ID adopted the2018 IRC and IECC building and residential codes with amendments during the 2020 legislative session. Local jurisdictions may not adopt more or less restrictive measures.

Appliance Standards:

ID has not set appliance standards beyond the federal appliance standards.
