WEIM-BOSR 2024 Western Electricity Markets Training Forum

Past BOSR Meetings

We are pleased to announce this year’s Western Electricity Market Training Forum. This invite-only training provides regulators the opportunity to participate in hands-on wholesale electricity market simulation training. The training forum will be held on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10, 2024, at the California ISO’s headquarters in Folsom, California. The agenda is forthcoming.

This two-day workshop will combine introductory training on the CAISO’s energy market services (i.e., the ISO’s Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM), current Day-Ahead Market, and proposed Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM)) and a hands-on game-based market simulation training facilitated by professors from Stanford University. Participants in the market simulation training will work in teams and perform the roles of electric generating companies, load serving entities, and vertically integrated utilities. The market simulations are designed to provide important insights into efficient market performance, the exercise of unilateral market power, the impact of forward contracts on bidding and price volatility, and the impact of variable energy resources on market outcomes.

Participation in the market simulation training is limited.

Please email Chris Zawora at WIEB (czawora@westernenergyboard.org) if you, or someone from your team will be able to join us for this training event.
