On September 4, 2026, WIRAB submitted comments on NERC’s Draft Governance Guidelines for NERC Standing Committees.
A summary of WIRAB’s key comments is provided below:
- WIRAB recommends NERC establish regional and interconnection-specific expertise as an explicit Standing Committee membership and subordinate-group staffing consideration through an addition to Section 2(a) of the draft Governance Guidelines.
- WIRAB recommends NERC establish a mechanism to monitor and report on Standing Committee membership turnover and geographic and sector representation over time, given the combined effect of the lowered voting threshold and removal of membership term limits.
