In light of the ongoing developments around the changing Reliability Coordinator (RC) structure in the Western Interconnection, the Western Interconnection Regional Advisory Body (WIRAB) invited state and provincial agency personnel and interested stakeholders to participate in a webinar with Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Staff who will provided a status update on key topics associated with the changing RC dynamics. As the NERC designated Regional Entity for the Western Interconnection, WECC is responsible for certifying that all new RCs have the tools and processes necessary to comply with all NERC Reliability Standards applicable to a registered RC.
- Discussed the role, function, and history of RCs in the West;
- Walked through the certification process WECC will use to certify an RC;
- Provided a status update on other RC initiatives in the West; and
- Conducted a question and answer session with participants.
This session provided a valuable opportunity for state and provincial agency personnel and interested stakeholders to better understand the role of WECC during this time of RC transition, but also recognize the limitations of its role in this process. There was Q&A from the audience.
