Energy Storage:

Washington does not have a procurement target or goal for energy storage. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission issued a policy statement in 2017 directing utilities in their jurisdiction to include energy storage in resource planning and procurement. The state’s Grid Modernization Program has leveraged the Washington Clean Energy Fund (CEF) to provide matching funds to utilities that deploy utility-scale storage projects that test different storage technologies. Additionally, in 2023-2024, the state established a producer-funded battery stewardship program (SB 5144).
