GHG Reduction Targets:
Colorado released its first Greenhouse Gas Pollution Reduction Roadmap 2021. This Roadmap established GHG reduction targets economy-wide of 26% by 2025, 50% by 2030, and 90% by 2050 from 2005 levels.
In 2023, Colorado revised the economy-wide GHG reductions, from 2005 baseline:
- 65% by 2035
- 75% by 2040
- 90% by 2045
- 100% by 2050
The enabling legislation also includes pathways for achieving these targets, including updated utility interconnection rule, a regulatory pathway for carbons sequestration, and additional mechanism across sectors (e.g., tax credits, grid enhancements) (SB23-016).
