GHG Reduction Targets:

Oregon’s statutory greenhouse gas reduction goals were established in 2007 and are included in ORS 468A.205:

  • By 2010, arrest the growth of Oregon’s GHG emissions and begin to reduce them
  • By 2020, achieve GHG levels at least 10% below 1990 levels
  • By 2050, achieve GHG levels at least 75% below 1990 levels

In 2020, then Governor Kate Brown issued Executive Order 20-04, which added a 2035 interim goal and updated the 2050 goal:

  • At least 45% below 1990 emissions levels by 2035

At least 80% below 1990 emissions levels by 2050Oregon’s Climate Protection Program requires fuel suppliers and large stationary sources to meet a 50% GHG emissions reduction target by 2035 and 90% by 2050. The program is administered by the Department of Environmental Quality.
