British Columbia has set a number of ambitious targets to reduce the growth of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions with the following steps:
- Research and develop policy strategies for accelerating energy efficiency across all sectors of the economy
- Implement regulations that require products, equipment, and appliances sold or manufactured in in B.C. to meet minimum energy performance standards
- Assist in the development of energy performance requirements in B.C.’s building code
- Support public utilities and other branches of government to facilitate energy efficiency programs, tools, and standards
- Stimulate the development and introduction of technologies and practices that increase energy efficiency through the Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund
- Administer programs and tools designed to increase the voluntary adoption of higher-efficiency technologies and practices by B.C. households, businesses, institutions, and local governments
- Work closely with partners and stakeholders inside and outside of B.C. to pursue a coordinated energy efficiency strategy
